POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER OR PHD CANDIDATE IN EUROPEAN PRIVATE LAW NETHERLANDS 2011

The Faculty of Law is offering a position for either a postdoctoral or a PhD researcher in European private law. The opening is for a position at the Centre for the Study of European Contract Law (CSECL), one of the centres of excellence of the University of Amsterdam.

The researcher will work within the overarching projectThe Architecture ofPost-National Rulemaking: Public International Law, European Public Law, and European Private Law jointly led by Prof. Martijn Hesselink, Prof. Deirdre Curtin and Prof. Andr Nollkaemper. The project aims to provide new reflections and insights into the discussion on the legitimacy of post-national rulemaking starting from three distinct but in this project uniquely combined legal perspectives. The main objective is to relate perspectives from public international law, European public law and European private law on post-national rulemaking and to examine through a new lens any legitimacy concerns that may arise from the new arrangements. The project will further develop a normative framework for the analysis of post-national rulemaking applicable across all three areas. This will require theoretical work on the concepts of rulemaking and legitimacy starting from the perspectives of the three different areas of law.

For the complete job description, please see the UvAwebsite.

SCHOLARSHIPS GREEK AT UNIVERSITIES AND TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION INSTITUTES FROM GREECE GOVERNMENT 2010-2011

100 Scholarships From Greece Government 2010-2011
Within the framework of international development cooperation and assistance, each year, Hellenic Aid grants approximately 100 scholarships to foreign and expatriate students deriving from developing countries for graduate and postgraduate studies at Greek universities and technological education institutes.

The Scholarships Programme includes all tertiary educational institutions and subjects, except from graduate studies in Theology (the relevant scholarships are granted by the Directorate for Religious and Ecclesiastic Affairs of the MFA) and Fine Arts as well as postgraduate studies in Medicine.

Every year, Hellenic Aid issues a relevant Call for Interest that specifies the countries, the nationals of which are eligible for a scholarship, and the number of scholars per country. Upon issuance, the Call for Interest is forwarded to the Greek diplomatic and consular authorities in these countries.
By the end of June, all interested students submit a scholarship grant application, indicating up to three educational departments, which they would like to attend, as well as all the necessary supporting documents, to the Greek authority of their country of origin, which forwards them to the Scholarships Unit of Hellenic Aid Directorate 4.

In September, Hellenic Aid evaluates all submitted applications and selects the scholars for the following academic year, announcing the results to all applicants, via the Greek authorities in the recipient countries.

At the commencement of the academic year, the selected scholars are obliged to contact the competent Hellenic Aid Department, in order to enroll in the Scholars Register and sign the Scholarship Award Contract. They should have already been granted a student visa by the Greek consular authority of their country of origin.

Supporting documents

For graduate studies scholarship grant applications:

  • High school diploma or any equivalent secondary education qualification
  • Formal document, issued by the competent authority of the country of origin of the applicant, certifying that he/she has the right to enroll in a tertiary educational institution of the country of issuance of the high school diploma.
  • Letter of naturalization of the applicant and his/her parents

For post-graduate studies scholarship grant applications:

  • Degree issued by a Greek tertiary educational institution or by a foreign one, officially recognized by the National Academic Recognition Information Centre
  • Letter of naturalization of the applicant and his/her parents
  • Letter of acceptance of the applicant in a postgraduate course, issued by a Greek University/supervising Professor

In addition to the aforementioned documents, expatriates should submit an official document, issued by the competent Greek authority abroad, certifying residence in the recipient country for the last five years before the academic year of enrollment.
All supporting documents are to be officially certified and translated by a Greek diplomatic and consular authority abroad or certified by a foreign one and translated by the competent Service of the Greek MFA.

PHD STUDENTSHIPS FROM SICSA SCOTLAND UK 2011

Applying for a SICSA Prize Studentship

The Scottish Graduate Academy offers prize studentships to excellent candidates from across the world. There is no residence qualification and candidates from any country may apply.

We are now accepting applications for the Prize Studentship. The deadline for this round is 2nd May 2011.

To make an application for a SICSA Prize Studentship, you must:
  • Apply online via the SICSA Applications System before the stated deadline, and;
  • Apply directly to your first-choice institution as soon as possible.

Further information about making an application

How to write a SICSA research proposal.

FAQs about SICSA studentship applications

Once you have applied

Selection of candidates is by a competitive process where we look at the students academic achievements, referees reports, research proposal, publications and experience. The research proposal is particularly important as this helps us judge how well a candidate has thought about their research, how well the research fits with the SICSA themes and the potential cross-site supervisory arrangements.

Your studentship application will be considered by the universities that you have listed in your application. They will decide, on the basis of the information in your application, if they wish to nominate you for a SICSA studentship. If they do so, your application will be considered by the Graduate Academy Board.

Your first choice university may decide not to nominate your application for a studentship. In this case, your details will be passed to any other universities that you have included in your application and they may decide to support your application. Applications from students who are not nominated by one of the SICSA partners will not be considered for a prize studentship.

Information about SICSA Theme Areas

We are willing to consider applicants in any area of computer science and informatics but may give preference to students who are working in SICSA theme areas:
  • Next-generation Internet
  • Multi-modal interaction
  • Modelling and abstraction
  • Complex systems engineering

Some universities would like to recruit students for specific projects and information about these projects is available here. However, your application does not have to be related to any of these projects and you may make a research proposal in any area of work.
