LAZIODISU SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE AT ITALY UNIVERSITIES 2011

Laziodisu Scholarship at Italy Universities 2011

ADISU = Azienda per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario: there is one agency for each Italian region; its task is to set up and run welfare services for students. LAZIODISU is the agency for the Lazio region.

Requirements

For the undergraduate degree one must have a 3-year degree diploma (Bachelors) and be enrolled at any university inside Italy.

Students enrolled for the academic year 2011/2012 get temporary benefits based on the requirement of their economic status. The requirements are evaluated ex-post, with reference to different courses of study, as follows:
  • The total amount of the scholarship shall be payable only after obtaining 20 credits by 10 August 2012. In this case, payment will be granted (2nd instalment) only after registration of the credits necessary to the University has been verified;
  • Only half of the total amount of the scholarship will be paid (1st instalment) if 20 credits are not obtained by 10 August 2012 but within 30 November 2012;
  • The scholarship (1st and 2nd instalments) will be revoked if the student does not obtain the 20 credits required by 30 November 2012.

In order to participate in all competitions for Laziodisu benefits, income and asset limits in 2010 are:

ISEE* (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator): 16.597,44 per year.

*ISEE is an indicator which measures the economic status of families in the Italian Republic. It takes into account income, assets (movable and immovable) and the characteristics of a family (number of family members and type).

In order to participate in the competitions for Laziodisu benefits the ISEE certificate must be authenticated by a CAF (Tax Assistance Centre) or by INPS (National Institute of Social Security). The ISEE must relate to income received and assets owned in 2010 by members of the family unit. Once the CAF receives the information it must, within 10 days, send it to the INPS database. Once this procedure is complete the ISEE is formally legalized.

It is important that the certificate is signed at a CAF within the final deadline of 23 September 2011. If the ISEE certificate is not in INPS database the student will be excluded from the competition.

In case of an ISEE with a sum of income equal to zero in 2010, the student must quantify the economic means of livelihood used by the household to meet basic needs (utilities, meals, lodging, etc..) using the online application form.

Notice for foreign students.
Foreign students can request the ISEE in the Italian Embassies in their countries or in their countrys Embassies in Italy

Deadline and Duration

The application to participate in the scholarship competition must be submitted separately from the enrolment application. It must be completed within the deadlines. Online application for the competition for the academic year 2010/2011 was open from 23 August to 23 September 2010 (the academic year 2011/2012 is likely to have the same or similar deadlines).

For students enrolled in the bachelors or masters degree programme, Laziodisu benefits are available during the legal duration of the course, starting from the year of first matriculation and continuing for additional semester (which is 50% of the duration of the scholarship). There are two semesters during a one year course.

For the academic year 2011/2012 students must enrol in the university no later than 31 March 2012, in order to participate in the scholarship competition and to request other benefits from Laziodisu.

The scholarship will not be paid unless the student is enrolled (i.e. University tuition fees and taxes must be paid).

PHD STUDENTSHIP IN PHYSICS (PHOTONICS) AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DUBLIN IRELAND 2011

PhD studentship in Physics (Photonics) from The University of Dublin Ireland 2011

The University of Dublin
Trinity College: PhD studentship in Physics (Photonics)

Applications are sought from suitably qualified candidates to undertake research towards a PhD degree in Physics. The candidates must be citizens of the European Union, have a first-class or upper second-class honours degree in Physics or a related discipline before the studentship begins and will work under the supervision of Prof. Eithne McCabe in the School of Physics in Trinity College Dublin. This training programme will include advanced specialized courses in Years 1 and 2, and students will benefit from the courses in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and generic skills training offered by the Innovation Academy. This PRTLI5-funded structured PhD programme integrates with existing research strengths of the School of Physics where Nanoscience, Photonics, and Computational Physics are identified as major research themes.

The project will involve novel imaging using surface plasmons. For more than a century the emphasis has been on diffraction limited resolution. In recent years many exciting, new approaches have emerged in terms of both imaging on the nanoscale and using nanoparticles to highlight charcateristics of a sample. The optical characteristics of many systems can be significantly enhanced by plasmonics. They promise to have a major impact in many areas of nanoscience including photonic electronics where surface plasmon polaritons offer promise in the miniaturisation of photonis circuits. This project will investigate the physics and applications of plasmonics in novel imaging environments.

The studentship, with a stipend of 16,000 per annum, is available from September 2011. Applications including a CV and the contact details of two academic referees must be submitted to physics[ at ]tcd.ie with the subject line Prof. Eithne McCabe PRTLI5 studentship.

Any additional enquiries may be directed to Prof. Eithne McCabe, eithne.mccabe@tcd.ie.

The programme teaches advanced public management practices and provides direct exposure to the inner workings of Singapore Government agencies through a six-week attachment. MPM students are also introduced to American politics, society and culture through semester-long studies at Harvard Universitys Kennedy School of Government.

Admissions Policy

The objective of the admissions policy of the MPM programme is to select a diverse group of students with outstanding academic ability and who have demonstrated career achievement with potential for future growth, and who are contributing to public service.

MASTER IN PUBLIC MANAGEMENT LKY FELLOWSHIPS SINGAPORE 2011

Singapore Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Masters Programme Information 2011/2012
[Singapore] Master in Public Management LKY Fellowships 2011-2012

We are pleased to inform you that applications are now open for our prestigious Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Fellowships for the 1-year Master in Public Management (MPM) programme. The LKY Fellowship provides an unparalleled opportunity for Indonesian officials to network with their counterparts in other Asian countries who are being groomed as future leaders.

The LKY Fellowship is arguably one of the most prestigious scholarships given to non-Singapore citizens by the Singapore Government. Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fellowship is valued in excess of one-hundred thousand dollars per student making it one of the most generous scholarships globally. The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for public sector officials from Asia to study one semester at the LKY School and a second at the Harvard Kennedy School . Moreover, LKY Fellows benefit from a five-week attachment with a Singapore Government Ministry or Statutory Board which aims to deepen candidates understanding of policy making and implementation in Singapore and encourage reflection on its relevance to their own country.

Every year a select group of around 20 to 25 senior officials from all over Asia come together in Singapore in January in the MPM classroom. The typical LKY Fellow is an Asian government official or professional with over 8 years of work experience and a proven trajectory in positions of leadership, high-level decision making, and a strong commitment to public service. This year we have admitted a high profile classroom of senior government officials from China, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia to debate, analyze and share ideas on how to exercise effective leadership and good governance in an increasingly complex and inter-dependent world. The MPM 2011 cohort includes officers from the Indian Administrative Service, Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and Vietnam , a Supreme Court Judge from the Philippines and the Executive Director of Greenpeace, SE Asia .

From Indonesia , we have 11 MPM alumni including Budi Kuncoro, Advisor, Governance Reform Support for Hickling (CIDA) and Pery Irawan from The Secretariat of the Vice-President of Indonesia.

Given the unique value proposition of the Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship, we strongly believe that Indonesian civil servants and professionals will greatly benefit from enrolling in the MPM classroom.

The official deadline for applications is June 30th, 2011 for the academic year commencing January 2012. Application details can be found on our website at http://www.lkyspp.nus.edu.sg/Master_Public_Management.aspx

We will be holding an information session on the MPM Programme as follows:

UK/EU PHD SCHOLARSHIP BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES AT UNIVERSITY OF HULL UK2011

University of Hull
UK/EU PhD Scholarship at University of Hull UK2011

To celebrate the Universitys research successes, the University of Hull is offering one UK/EU PhD Scholarship for candidates applying for the following project
Closing date Tuesday 31st May 2011;

Studentships will start in September 2011
  • Supervisor: Dr Chris Venditti
  • Email: C.Venditti@hull. ac.uk
  • Telephone: +44 (0)1482 46 2077
  • Department: Biological Sciences
  • Co-Supervisor( s): Dr Dave Lunt, Biological Sciences

This studentship will aim to understand the origin and evolution of wide-scale patterns of diversity in animals. It is currently not clear how environmental factors interact with speciation, extinction, and genetic and morphological rates of change to produce diversity. It is often assumed that these different measures of diversity are closely tied; for example, where there are more species we would expect greater morphological diversity.

There is a growing literature that suggests this is not the case: reproductive isolations can occur with little or no genetic change; genetically very closely related species can have wildly divergent morphologies; some large groups of species can be indistinguishable from gross morphology where as other, species-poor, groups are diverse. If this is the case how does diversity accumulate? The student will address this question using cutting-edge statistical phylogenetic comparative methods applied to multiple datasets encompassing a wide range of animal groups.

The studentship has the potential to contribute to a real quantitative science of macroevolution and has implications for life history, ecology, evolutionary biology, conservation and population biology. Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Dr Chris Venditti (C.Venditti@hull.ac.uk).

This full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship will include fees at the home/EU student rate and maintenance (13,590 in 2011/12, subject to final confirmation) for three years, depending on satisfactory progress.

PhD students at the University of Hull follow modules for research and transferable skills development and gain a Masters level Certificate, or Diploma, in Research Training, in addition to their research degree. Successful applicants will be informed of the award by 11th July.
